Itinerary:
Begin your trip with a visit to Bakong Temple - a sandstone pyramid and a masterpiece of Pre-Angkorian craftsmanship. Its tiered design symbolizes Mount Meru, the mythical center of the universe in Hindu cosmology. Surrounded by moats and lush greenery, Bakong offers a serene escape steeped in spiritual history.
Next, experience a traditional water blessing by a Buddhist monk. As the monk gently sprinkles holy water and chants rhythmic Pali scriptures, the ritual is believed to cleanse misfortune and invite positive energy. A red cotton thread will be tied around your wrist—a sacred token of protection and spiritual strength.
After feeling refreshed, continue to the village and meet the locals at an organic farmhouse. Their families have lived in the area for generations. You’ll hear about their lives and stories, including memories of living near the temples and participating in many ceremonies and customs. Bakong is the village that celebrates the most traditional festivals. If you’re lucky, you may be able to join one of them if it takes place on that day.
You will also have the chance to explore the farm. The villagers are happy to share traditional planting techniques. You’ll see many kinds of vegetables and herbs used in Cambodian cuisine — dishes you’ve enjoyed during your stay in Cambodia, but may not find in your own country.
After learning about the culture, conclude your trip with a ride through the beautiful countryside.
